Emotional Warnock eager to stay

NEIL WARNOCK admits he is unsure whether he will get the chance to lead QPR out in the Premier League next season.

QPR saw their promotion confirmed on Saturday, as the Football Association announced that the club would not be docked points over the Alejandro Faurlin third-party ownership investigation.

Warnock and his side were presented with the Championship title following a 2-1 defeat to Leeds, with the sense of relief almost tangible around Loftus Road.

There is, however, uncertainty as to who will be charged with the task of preserving the club’s top flight status next season.

Warnock is still locked into a contract with the capital club, but he accepts that owners Flavio Briatore and Bernie Ecclestone may decide to offer the post to a bigger name — with Marcello Lippi and Claudio Ranieri already linked with the role.

He said: “I’m not totally confident they will stick with me. It’s one of those things.

“But I don’t really want to leave London so I’ll be disappointed if I don’t get the opportunity.’’

Warnock also revealed how emotional a day Saturday’s promotion party had been, adding: “A lot of the lads, myself included, were in tears in the dressing room when we heard.”

Victory was bitter-sweet for Leeds, whose boasts of beating the champions twice this season were tempered by confirmation they finished seventh and therefore, would not fill the final play-off spot.

That honour instead went to Nottingham Forest, who beat Crystal Palace 3-0.

Cardiff rounded off their campaign with a 1-1 draw at Burnley and are also preparing themselves for the play-offs.

Reading and Swansea complete the line-up for the play-offs. The former were 2-1 winners over Derby while the Swans hammered relegated Sheffield United 4-0.

Promoted Norwich were slightly disappointed to finish their season with a 2-2 draw at home to Coventry.

Barnsley ended their Championship season with a 1-0 victory at home to Millwall, Hull suffered a 3-0 loss at Bristol City and Leicester were 4-2 winners over Ipswich.

Middlesbrough recorded a convincing 3-0 result against Doncaster, Preston beat Watford 3-1 while Scunthorpe’s 1-1 draw at home to Portsmouth saw them finish at the bottom of the table.
