Hat-trick for Zayed as Derry run riot
Derry were 1-0 up at half-time, thanks to a Gareth McGlynn strike, but the floodgates opened in the second half. The home side netted two further goals within the space of five minutes to end the game as a contest.
Zayed finally netted his 100th strike in the 51st minute when he met McGlynn’s superb cross, heading the ball back across UCD keeper Ger Barron.
And the excellent McGlynn netted his second and Derry’s third in the 56th minute when racing onto McClean’s pass to give Barron no chance.
But it got much worse for the students when James McClean added a fourth goal in the 63rd minute, McGlynn again the provider.
UCD then had right winger Dean Marshall sent off following a ‘last man’ challenge on Derry substitute David McDaid inside the penalty area.
McDaid dusted himself down to make it 5-0 from the spot in the 79th minute.
Zayed netted number six in the 82nd minute and two minutes later he secured the match ball when heading home for a memorable hat-trick.
