Lehane and Murphy seal title for Douglas

DOUGLAS Community School won the Munster Youths U18 soccer final when they defeated Crescent Comprehensive at Pike Rovers club in Limerick yesterday.

Lehane and Murphy seal title for Douglas

Neither side could manage a goal in the first half but the Cork side went ahead 10 minutes after the restart.

A long ball out of defence was latched onto by Rob Lehane and he calmly lobbed the advancing Crescent goalkeeper Shane Cotter who came off his line in an effort to avert the danger.

Ten minutes later Douglas had their second goal with Eoghan Murphy powerfully heading a corner to the back of the net. Crescent, to their credit, refused to raise the white flag and their efforts were rewarded with a Fergal Blake goal eight minutes from time but try as they might they couldn’t manage an equaliser.

The Limerick side will be hoping for better fortune this afternoon when they defend the Munster Schools junior rugby cup title.
