WHAT Roy Keane did next has always been a source of fascination on both sides of the Irish Sea and no more so than yesterday when the Corkman was linked with a bid to purchase non-league side Cambridge United.

The Blue Square Premier League side, which is struggling financially and flirted with administration in 2005, was put up for sale by chairman Paul Barry in January in the hope of attracting new investors or even a takeover bid.

Claims the former Manchester United captain was interested in taking overall control of the ‘U’s’ began to swirl around the internet yesterday but one of the season’s most unlikely stories was deflated somewhat later in the day by club spokespeople.
