PADDY KENNY believes the ban he served for failing a drugs test has proven to be “a blessing in disguise”, as he bids to complete his comeback by helping Queens Park Rangers return to the Barclays Premier League.

Speaking for the first time since returning from a nine-month ban after testing positive for ephedrine, the 32-year-old Republic of Ireland goalkeeper said he feared his career might be over.

“I was in Egypt when I got a call from the chairman at (his then club) Sheffield United and then from my agent, telling me I had failed a drugs test,” Kenny said.
