Six months ago, he had just one senior appearance to his name with his club. Back then, he could never have set his sights so high so soon and yet, here he is, about to run out at the Aviva Stadium on the back of 14 appearances and four goals for his club.

“At the start of the season I didn’t really expect to be where I am now both with the club and country,” he admitted. “It’s gone quite quickly for me but I am just quite pleased and honoured to be here and part of it for Villa and Ireland.”
