Reds’ bid for Adam ends in failure as window slams shut

Liverpool were at the centre of the first major piece of transfer business yesterday morning when Paul Konchesky made a loan move to Nottingham Forest.
They also allowed fellow defender Daniel Ayala to join Forest’s East Midlands rivals Derby, but a hamstring injury meant the loan move was put on hold until next month.
Liverpool announced the loan capture of 17-year-old Coventry midfielder Conor Thomas.
Elsewhere Bolton clinched the loan signing of Daniel Sturridge from Chelsea until the end of the season.

Former Newcastle striker Obafemi Martins joined Birmingham on loan from Russian club Rubin Kazan, while Aston Villa confirmed the loan signing of US international Michael Bradley from Borussia Monchengladbach.
“Michael is 23 and is a very hard-working midfielder who can score goals and is versatile,’’ Villa boss Gerard Houllier said.
“I saw him play four times in the World Cup last summer. We are very happy to have him. Despite his age he is an experienced player.
“He will bring energy and legs in midfield when we need it.”
Arsenal have signed Japanese teenage forward Ryo Miyaichi on a “long-term” deal. The 18-year-old has been loaned to Dutch side Feyenoord for the rest of the season
Blackburn signed Argentinian midfielder Mauro Formica on a three-year deal and also secured the services of Barcelona youngster Ruben Rochina for an undisclosed fee. Rangers signed El Hadji Diouf from Blackburn on loan until the end of the season.
Stoke agreed to sell Tuncay to Wolfsburg on a three-and-half-year deal and Sunderland’s out-of-favour defender Paulo Da Silva completed his switch to Real Zaragoza for an undisclosed fee.
Eidur Gudjohnsen joined Fulham on loan from Stoke until the season end.
Everton completed the signing of Greek teenager Apostolos Vellios. Vellios has penned an agreement until 2014.
The Toffees have also confirmed two squad players will be leaving the club on loan until the end of the season.
Joao Silva, 20, has joined Portuguese first division side Uniao de Leiria while 21-year-old Kieran Agard has secured a move to Kilmarnock.
Wolves signed former Bristol City keeper Adriano Basso until the end of the season, with Andy Keogh moving in the opposite direction on a three-month loan.
Hull signed 19-year-old Manchester United striker Cameron Stewart for an undisclosed fee following a successful loan spell, while Leeds signed Man City reserve keeper David Gonzalez.
Rangers completed the signing of Arsenal defender Kyle Bartley on loan until the end of the season. But Newcastle failed in a late bid to lure Charles N’Zogbia back to St James’ Park.
