LIVERPOOL’S bid to sign Blackpool midfielder Charlie Adam ended in disappointment last night, with Blackpool — who themselves completed the loan signing of James Beattie from Rangers — holding on to their star man on a busy transfer deadline day.

Blackpool also snapped up Belarus international Sergei Kornilenko on loan for the rest of the season from Zenit St Petersburg. The 27-year-old became the fourth deadline day signing at Bloomfield Road after Andy Reid, Beattie and Jason Puncheon.

Liverpool were at the centre of the first major piece of transfer business yesterday morning when Paul Konchesky made a loan move to Nottingham Forest.
