SLIGO ROVERS manager Paul Cook was last night named the Airtricity/Soccer Writers’ Personality of the Year at a gala banquet in Dublin.

Cook was recognised for his achievement in helping Sligo win an FAI Ford Cup and EA Sports Cup double, while also steering the Bit O'Red to third place in the table and European football next season.

Shamrock Rovers, who lost to Sligo in that epic cup final, still had something to celebrate, with Alan Mannus named Goalkeeper of the Year, after the Northern Ireland international had proved vital to the Hoops claiming their first league title in sixteen years.
