McCarthy edging closer to return

WIGAN youngster James McCarthy has revealed he has resumed training and hopes to return to action at Arsenal on Saturday week.

The 20-year-old is recovering from ankle ligament damage suffered in the Premier League game against Bolton at the DW Stadium back in October.

And, following a hard slog of gym work, the Republic of Ireland midfielder admits he is eager to help the Latics out of their current plight.
