Meyler backed for starring role

SUNDERLAND midfielder Jordan Henderson is backing David Meyler to step into Lee Cattermole’s boots while the club skipper is on the sidelines.

Cattermole was absent from the Black Cats’ 3-0 win over Blackburn Rovers on Saturday after picking up a back injury in last week’s defeat against Blackpool, which will keep him out for a month.

While Cattermole has been a major figure for Sunderland this season, they barely missed him against Rovers as Meyler gave an excellent display in the holding midfielder’s role alongside Henderson.
