Ireland star Cunningham facing four-month lay-off

REPUBLIC OF IRELAND defender Greg Cunningham will be out for four months after suffering a broken leg playing for Leicester at the weekend.

Ireland star Cunningham facing four-month lay-off

Cunningham, on loan from Manchester City, suffered a broken leg after Hull’s Liam Rosenior’s late tackle on 62 minutes which earnt him a red card.

Leicester manager Sven Goran Eriksson said: “It’s a broken tibia, which could mean he is probably away for four months.

“It is important to say that as far as Rosenior was concerned, it was not stupid. It was bad luck and he didn’t mean to do it, so there should be no shadow over him.”

Hull boss Nigel Pearson insisted there was no malice in Rosenior’s tackle on Cunningham.

“Liam’s distraught; it was just slightly mistimed with two players going for the ball.

“There was no malice in the challenge. If you know the player you’d be very aware of that.”

Meanwhile first-team coach David Platt refused to be drawn on Manchester City’s chances of signing striker Edin Dzeko. City have been linked with a move for Wolfsburg’s Dzeko, with talks reportedly underway.

“You’re asking the wrong man,” Platt said. “If the club believes there’s a bit of business they can do that helps us, if they can do it, they’ll do it.”
