FAI in talks about England clash

THE Football Association of Ireland confirmed they are in talks with the FA about bringing England to the Aviva Stadium — but no date has been set for the showpiece.

FAI in talks about England clash

Last night the FAI said they hope to announce a decision on any proposed Dublin clash “within the next month”.

The statement last night said: “In response to media speculation, the FAI this evening confirmed that it is in discussions with the English FA about a possible friendly match in Dublin however the June date reported in this morning’s newspapers is incorrect.

“The discussions are ongoing and it is expected that an announcement will be made within the next month.”

England will have a spare date to fill if, as expected, a proposed friendly with Thailand on June 8 is scrapped and it had been suggested they would be making their first visit to Dublin since 1995, when rioting England fans forced the match to be abandoned after 27 minutes with Ireland leading 1-0.
