Reid’s Blades loan extended

SHEFFIELD UNITED have extended Sunderland midfielder Andy Reid’s loan spell at Bramall Lane until the New Year.

The 28-year-old midfielder has made four appearances for the Blades since arriving from the Stadium of Light at the end of October.

The out-of-favour Republic of Ireland international has had a big impact on Gary Speed’s side after stepping off the bench at Coventry.

He scored the winner in the victory at Millwall earlier this month and helped the Blades collect seven points from their last three matches.

Reid’s loan was due to expire after tomorrow’s game at Bristol City but he will now be available for the derby clash with local rivals Doncaster on January 3.

Speed said he was thrilled to retain Reid’s services until January.

“I am delighted because Andy brings a lot to the team,’’ the Sheffield United boss said. “He is very creative, always wants the ball and is influential off the pitch as well.’’
