Walcott: we can vent our frustration on Wolves
The Gunners missed the opportunity to close the gap on Barclays Premier League leaders Chelsea as they lost 1-0 against the Magpies, with Andy Carroll’s first-half header proving decisive.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger lamented his side’s inability to breakdown the resolute visitors, despite twice hitting the woodwork and also seeing keeper Tim Krul make a fine save from Samir Nasri.
However, the Gunners boss has challenged his side to show strength of character to get their title bid back on track with a positive result at Molineux.
And Walcott believes having another match so quickly could prove the perfect tonic as Arsenal look to avoid a third straight defeat.
Speaking at the official reopening of the flagship NikeTown store on Oxford Circus in London, Walcott said: “Football is a great game, you have ups and downs, with clubs like us slipping up yesterday.
“However, there are plenty of teams in it still, but we are not going to look too far ahead.
“We just want to concentrate on every single game, and take a step when we can.
“It is in the past now, we lost, but the great thing about football is there is another game around the corner, we have got a game on Wednesday and we can amend the disappointment which we had yesterday.”
Meanwhile the Gunners have launched an appeal against the sending-off of central defender Laurent Koscielny at the Emirates on Sunday.
The 25-year-old was red-carded late on against Newcastle after he fouled Nile Ranger on the edge of the box.
An FA statement last night read: “Arsenal FC have today submitted a claim of wrongful dismissal, following the dismissal of Laurent Koscielny for the denial of an obvious goal-scoring opportunity.”
The claim will be heard by an independent regulatory commission today.
If Arsenal lose the appeal Koscielny will be suspended for the trip to Wolves.
