DESPITE presiding over a victory that could re-ignite Liverpool’s season, Roy Hodgson chose to ignore the plaudits after his side’s 2-0 win over Chelsea.

Hodgson could have been forgiven for getting carried away with the victory but he was quick to play down the significance of the three points.

He did, however, manage to break away from his usual reserved manner to lavish praise on Fernando Torres, whose excellent double was enough to dent Chelsea’s title charge.
