Showdown at the Bernabeu as big spenders vie for top spot

REAL MADRID and AC Milan, the two most successful clubs in the history of the European Cup, will go head to head at the Santiago Bernabeu in tonights showcase match of the Champions League.

Madrid will look to make it three games from three in what promises to be a game of high drama as both sides battle for top spot in Group G.

José Mourinho’s fingerprints are already beginning to make a telling impact on the Galacticos and as well as leading their group ahead of tonights clash, on Saturday night they moved o to the summit of La Liga with a 4-1 demolition of Malaga, extending their unbeaten league run to seven games.

Argentine star Gonzalo Higuain grabbed a brace, as did £80 million signing Christiano Ronaldo and the free-scoring duo will again lead their attack tonight.

Both teams boast some of the most entertaining players in the sport and Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas acknowledges the eyes of the world will be trained on one of football’s glitziest matches.

“(It’s) a classic, one of those games every player wants to play and every fan wants to see,’ the Spain captain said.

San Siro boss Massimiliano Allegri is convinced it will be a “beautiful and spectacular game” too but stressed his side need to produce “the perfect game” if they are to get a result when they visit the Spanish giants.

The Rossaneri are also enjoying a good current run of form, a 3-1 win at home to Genoa at the weekend putting the team second in the Serie A table. Massimo Allegri’s side has picked up four points in the Champions League from two matches and will look to move to the summit with a win tonight.

Brazil centre back Thiago Silva is their only major injury concern but he should be fit in time after sustaining a calf injury against Genoa.
