Keane ‘delighted’ after scooping awards double

Keane, who will earn his 100th cap against Argentina on Wednesday at the Aviva Stadium, beat off competition from Kevin Doyle and Richard Dunne to win the top prize while his strike in the World Cup play-off game against France in Paris last November – a sure-footed finish to crown a flowing Irish move – was acclaimed as the goal of the year.

“You do your work for the team, for the lads and it’s obviously paid off by getting these awards and I’m delighted to get them,” said Keane.
