THIERRY HENRY yesterday called time on a distinguished and controversial international career.

The 32-year-old, who this week joined MLS side New York Red Bulls after being released by Barcelona, began his international career in 1997, making his debut against South Africa and was a member of the 1998 World Cup winning team and the successful Euro 2000 side.

However Henry’s image was badly tarnished by his infamous handball in November which helped secure France’s ticket for the World Cup finals in South Africa at the Republic of Ireland’s expense.
