Mawhinney: Capello should retire old boys

EX-FOOTBALL League chairman Brian Mawhinney believes Fabio Capello should retire several of England’s older players following their World Cup humiliation.

Mawhinney, a member of the England 2018 board, gave his support to the under-fire Italian, but claimed he needs to start developing a younger squad if they are to be more successful at the 2012 European Championships or 2014 World Cup.

“I think Fabio should be encouraged to recognise that a number of the present team are going to be past their peak by the European Championships in 2012,” Mawhinney claimed.
