FORMER Manchester United striker Diego Forlan returned to haunt Liverpool as his extra-time strike sent Atletico Madrid into the Europa League final despite losing 2-1 at Anfield last night.

Trailing from the first leg in Spain, Liverpool took the lead through Alberto Aquilani’s second goal since his £20 million move from Roma last summer and looked to have finished the job when Yossi Benayoun fired in at the start of the added period.

But Forlan, who memorably embarrassed Jerzy Dudek to score twice here in 2002, scored the decisive goal in the 112th minute to dump Liverpool out.
