Storrie in the cold as Kaboul set for Spurs

PORTSMOUTH chief executive Peter Storrie has suggested he was left out of negotiations with Tottenham over the sale of Younes Kaboul.

Kaboul is expected to seal a return to White Hart Lane in a deal worth around £11 million (€12.7m), though £2m (€2.3m) of that is reportedly already owed by Pompey from the deal that brought the defender to Fratton Park.

But Storrie, one of the few constant figures during a turbulent time on the south coast, hinted he was kept in the dark over the Kaboul deal until talks were well progressed.

Asked if he felt his role had become untenable, he said: “In very many ways it probably has.

“It makes you wonder what one’s doing here at the moment. My love is for the football club and despite what some of the fans may think, it always has been.

“My interest is in what is best for the football club.”

He added: “I’ll always keep that in mind whatever decision we make.

“But one feels aggrieved that over the years some excellent deal have been done in terms of transfers, both in and out. I’d like to think I’m pretty good at getting the right transfer fees.

“If there is a need to sell a player and get a fee then I feel I am the best person for the situation.

“But I knew nothing about it (the Kaboul reports) until this morning. I took a call from Avram (Grant, manager) and was told there were meetings going on at Spurs.

“I’m not knocking it or saying it’s right one way or another but surely get the experts in. If someone has to go then let’s get the right price.”

The crisis at Fratton Park deepened when the club confirmed this morning that their failure to honour their financial commitments to Juicy, the company responsible for running the site, resulted in it being taken off-line.
