SUNDERLAND boss Steve Bruce has hailed Cork youngster David Meyler and insists he’d have no concerns with playing him at Stamford Bridge today.

Bruce insists he will not rush injured players back for the game and he says the likes of Meyler – and Daryl Murphy – have staked their claims after their recent performances.

“I look at the terrific battling effort at Blackburn Rovers, and the fact that virtually the same team went out a few days later and saw the job through so professionally against Barrow in the cup.

“I was absolutely delighted for the lads who came in – players like David Meyler and Daryl Murphy – who had waited a long time for a chance and took it very well.

“Young Meyler is understandably raw when it comes to experience, but his energy in midfield is absolutely fantastic. And when you look at Murphy, you’ve got to give credit to the lad.
