Aguero insists he’s staying at Atletico

ARGENTINA striker Sergio Aguero has reiterated his commitment to Atletico Madrid.

Aguero insists he’s staying at Atletico

The 21-year-old has been linked with a January switch to a host of top clubs including Barclays Premier League leaders Chelsea, but insists he is unmoved by the speculation.

“I am aware that there are always rumours about my future, but actually I am isolated from everything,’’ he said.

“I have always made clear my commitment to Atletico and everybody knows it. Do not pay much attention to what comes out. All I am doing is playing and worrying about the team, so these things do not affect me.”

Aguero joined the Rojiblancos from Independiente in 2006 and is looking forward to continuing his progress at the Vicente Calderon.

“I have changed many things,” he said, reflecting on his time in Spain. I am happy to be spending my fourth year at Atletico Madrid. I have learned many things both on and off the field during my time here.

“Now I know the Spanish league very well and that has made me grow as a footballer. Over these years, I have played alongside great players which has taught me a lot as a player and as a person.”

Aguero, who scored twice against Chelsea in their Champions League encounter in November, was the subject of much speculation surrounding a move to Stamford Bridge over the summer, and such talk has intensified with Didier Drogba’s departure for the African Cup of Nations and the injury suffered by Nicolas Anelka.

The transfer embargo imposed by Fifa over the signing of Gael Kakuta – though currently suspended – also looms, with January possibly Carlo Ancelotti’s last opportunity to supplement his ageing squad before a 12-month ban comes into effect.

However, Ancelotti has previously indicated that he will not look to spend during the transfer window.
