Downbeat Doyle left to rue Walton’s spot of bother

IT is the time-honoured complaint of the newly-promoted: rough justice from referees who are more concerned with reputations than hard facts.

Now, Kevin Doyle has re-ignited the debate, claiming that it is harder for Premier League’s rookies to earn penalties.

Doyle was denied what appeared to be a clear-cut spot-kick during Saturday’s home draw with Aston Villa when he seemed to be pulled back by defender Richard Dunne.
