Platini weighs in behind FIFA’s play-off seeding plan

UEFA president Michel Platini fully supports FIFA’s decision to seed the European teams that will contest four World Cup play-offs next month, it has emerged.

UEFA proposed the controversial seeding scheme to FIFA, based on the world governing body’s official rankings.

“As a member of the FIFA Executive Committee, Monsieur Platini fully agrees with and supports the decision taken by the committee on Tuesday,” a UEFA spokesman told the Irish Examiner yesterday.
