Adebayor madness mars City’s arrival among elite

AN occasion which should have been remembered as the afternoon when Manchester City announced that they merit inclusion among the Premier League’s elite will be remembered for something altogether different, thanks solely to the shameful actions of one man.

Emmanuel Adebayor, the gifted forward who moved from Arsenal to Eastlands for £25 million (€29m) this summer, was the man in question and his behaviour not only took the gloss of the most impressive of City’s four league victories to date, it also seems likely to result in him receiving a four-match suspension from the FA.

The Togo international sparked furious scenes of crowd unrest after sprinting the length of the field to celebrate his 80th minute goal in front of Arsenal fans, a City steward being knocked unconscious as a barrage of missiles rained down at the striker.
