But so far so good for the Kerry-born winger who could be in with a shout of a return to a starting berth on the left flank at Turner’s Cross tonight for the crucial top-of-the-table clash with champions Bohemians in the League of Ireland Premier Division.

“Not in a bad way but I was delighted when he went to Derry,” admits Dennehy when asked about the quasi-swap deal that saw him move down from his short stint at Derry City not long after Kearney joined the Candystripes. “It opened the door for me. Obviously Liam was here a long time and I’m only here five or six months. So I’m glad I’ve made a bit of a mark already.”
