Adebayor future in the spotlight as Wenger commits to club
Adebayor has been tipped to leave following a frustrating season, with the funds from a possible sale bolstering Wenger’s options in the transfer market this summer.
Wenger is set to meet with Adebayor’s representative, Stephane Courbis, at the end of the campaign.
“I do not know if the future of Emmanuel is with Arsenal,” he said.
“The only certainty is that at the end of the season I will meet with Wenger to assess the situation.”
Courbis insists there has been no contact with other clubs about a potential move – Adebayor has been linked with Chelsea and appeared close to joining AC Milan last summer.
Wenger has been criticised by a vocal minority of supporters, then small shareholders at a Q&A session last week. But after holding talks with chief executive Ivan Gazidis, Wenger said he would stay at the club.
Adebayor’s commitment has also been questioned by fans this season.
“Emmanuel is not criticised by the entire stadium, some of the fans think that way, some another,” Courbis said. “That dispute is only a small part of things, and Wenger has defended the boy which only shows what a good relationship there is between the coach and Emmanuel.”
He added: “I have to take stock of the situation with Wenger and at this moment it is premature to talk about any of these things.”
Meanwhile, striker Eduardo has undergone surgery on his ankle and is expected to return for pre-season.
“Eduardo underwent simple revision surgery on his left ankle,” read a statement from the club.
“The operation went well and Eduardo will follow a dedicated rehabilitation programme throughout June. He is expected to return to full training in pre-season with the rest of the squad.”
