ARSENE WENGER has dismissed suggestions he will need to spend heavily in the transfer market this summer after Chelsea brutally ended his team’s hopes of finishing third in the Premier League yesterday.

Chelsea’s 4-1 victory means Arsenal, who have now conceded seven goals in their last two home games and also four at Anfield against Liverpool, will have to settle for fourth place at the end of a frustrating season that has once again finished without silverware.

But Wenger, notorious for his careful spending, was not in the mood to discuss transfer policy as he reflected on another disappointing afternoon at the Emirates.
