Blue doom at City

LIVERPOOL can only do what they have been doing – winning their matches – but the chances of Manchester United slipping up are getting slimmer and I’ll be very surprised if the title hasn’t been reclaimed by them by this time next week.

No one other than Benitez’s team is making it remotely difficult for the Champions. Look how easy it was at Middlesbrough and again yesterday. That was supposed to exhibit the frenzied atmosphere of a derby but United had their slippers on by half time. Manchester City were absolutely feeble.

Robinho, as if he knows anything about it, claims that City will be champions of the Premier League within two years. Has anyone checked what they’re putting in his coffee? When Mark Hughes says his team is “in transition” I reckon that’s double-speak for “being in need of total overhaul”.

Shay Given apart, there’s not one City player who would come remotely close to getting into the United squad of 18 that Fergie chose yesterday. Even Stephen Ireland appears to have lost his way.

I can see a total clear-out at Eastlands in the summer and I’m afraid that may go for the manager as well. I don’t know if the rumours about Frank Rijkaard have substance but Hughes’ future must be in doubt.
