Hull condemn fan violence

HULL have condemned the “mindless hooliganism” of Millwall supporters which marred Saturday’s FA Cup tie at the KC Stadium.

Millwall have also moved to distance themselves from the travelling fans who clashed with Hull supporters.

Humberside police, who are now investigating, made 12 arrests after missiles were thrown and more than 50 seats were ripped up during the disturbances.

Hull chairman Paul Duffen said: “There is no place for this kind of mindless hooliganism in football. Hull will be seeking full financial compensation from Millwall for all the damage and will be making the strongest representations to the football authorities regarding this incident.”

The FA will also be looking into the matter.

A spokesman said: “We are aware of what happened and will be making investigations in conjunction with the police and both clubs.”

Most of the problems occurred where the North and East stands meet after segregation broke down prior to kick-off. The netting which covered the seats separating the supporters was torn away and some fans broke through a line of stewards.

Riot police were deployed to quell the trouble but tensions remained high throughout the fourth-round game, won 2-0 by Hull, and mounted officers patrolled the touchlines at the final whistle.

A Millwall club statement read: “We will provide our fullest co-operation with any investigation in order that those individuals can be identified and brought to justice.”
