Whatever my distaste for the man on a personal level — he once called for me to be sacked since I’d had the nerve to describe his Bolton team as “ugly” — I think he’s a very good coach and as good as any in terms of scratching around the lower reaches of the table accumulating points to ensure survival — and that’s what it’s all about.
Allardyce should keep them up. Saturday’s win was a good start even if the scoreline flattered them. The longer term debate about the style of football he’ll inflict can wait.
