Ireland remain 41st in world rankings

THE Republic of Ireland remain in 41st place in the latest FIFA world rankings.

European Championship winners Spain retain the top spot, ahead of Germany in second and Ireland’s World Cup qualifying opponents Italy in third.

Bulgaria, another of Ireland’s Group 8 rivals are ranked 17 while Norway, who will provide the opposition for Giovanni Trapattoni’s team in a friendly in Oslo later this month, are ranked 29, three points ahead of Northern Ireland.
