Vucinic: no Roman holiday for United

ALEX FERGUSON has infuriated Roma by already looking ahead to the semis, but Mirko Vucinic has other plans.

Manchester United won the first leg 2-0 at the Olimpico and seemed to suggest the tie was a foregone conclusion in his press conference.

“It is our best chance in a while to get to a semi-final. The clock is against Roma. They have to do something, which may suit us because I think on the counter attack we are very good. If we get by this one, the difficult one of course will be Barcelona — a marvellous football club and a good football team.”

The fact the Giallorossi are without captain Francesco Totti also hampers their chances, but Vucinic does not intend to lay down.

“We can certainly overturn this result,” assured the hitman. “We are going to Manchester with the right anger and spirit.

“If we don’t believe in this, then there is no point flying out there. In my view we have a 50% chance.”

Montenegrin Vucinic will replace Totti as the lone striker in the traditional 4-2-3-1 system and was on target this weekend in the 3-2 victory over Genoa.

“It is always difficult to replace a champion like Totti. I will try to give everything I’ve got and do my job.”

Vucinic commented on the controversy over Cristiano Ronaldo and his step-overs, as he has been accused in some quarters of mocking opponents.

“He is a great player. At times he exaggerates, but I think that’s just his personality.”

However midfielder Rodrigo Taddei believes it will require a superhuman effort for his side to progress.

“Those of us who have come to Manchester have to be focused and try to give not 100% but 200% in order for us to progress, something which is our aim,” said Taddei.”
