Pique set to ease Fergie’s defensive headache

ALEX FERGUSON is set to look to Gerard Pique to solve the defensive crisis caused by Rio Ferdinand’s injury.

Ferdinand left Middlesbrough on Sunday with his left foot in a protective plastic casing and although scans yesterday have revealed no broken bones, United have not given any indication on when he is likely to be fit.

That means he is doubtful for Roma’s visit tomorrow night and the clash with Arsenal on Sunday.
