100th cap fitting reward for Becks

TV3 carried a report the other night on the charity gig in New York at which David Beckham presented Pele with a lifetime achievement award.

Beckham said he was honoured and humbled by the experience and described sharing a stage with El Rei as “a highlight moment for me.”

For his part, Pele fondly recalled his own days as a soccer pathfinder in the Big Country with New York Cosmos and then, in a metaphorical passing of the torch to the LA Galaxy player, concluded: “His time is now.”
