Gap closes as Betis stun Real

JUST when Real Madrid seemed to be building an unassailable lead, with an unbeaten run stretching back three months, the champions have lost two away matches in a row, and suddenly the gap at the top has closed.

Barcelona fans were in despair last week when they dropped points at Sevilla. On Saturday Madrid visited Seville’s other club, Real Betis, and lost 2-1 thanks to two defensive errors from their 20-year-old Brazilian left back Marcelo.

It looked like being an easy night early on when the Merengues took the lead through Royston Drenthe.
