STUART PEARCE may just be hedging his bets but the England U21 boss insists the FAI will be onto a good thing whether they appoint Terry Venables or Giovanni Trapattoni as their new manager.

While Pearce is plotting the downfall of the Irish U21s in a UEFA Championship qualifier at Southampton’s St Mary’s Stadium tonight, he did take time out to ponder the vacant manager’s position in Ireland.

The former Manchester City manager is working with an experienced Italian boss at present in Fabio Capello but played under Venables at Euro ‘96.
