Strachan Bhoyed by Boruc

GORDON STRACHAN has hailed Artur Boruc’s decision to commit his future to Celtic.

AC Milan have reportedly been keen on a goalkeeper who impressed against the Italians in the Champions League and was said to have set his heart on a summer move.

But the Poland star has agreed a new three-and-a-half-year deal with the Hoops.

Celtic manager Strachan was thrilled when talks with Boruc which began in the summer came to fruition.

Strachan said: “Clearly this is great news for the club and we are delighted to have agreed this new extended contract with Artur. He has made a massive contribution to our success in the past two seasons and will hopefully continue to do so in the years ahead.”

Next on Celtic’s agenda could be talks with Shunsuke Nakamura, who is being targeted by Japanese side Yokohama F Marinos, the club where he launched his career.

Nakamura’s existing deal expires in the summer, although Celtic have a 12-month extension option which they are expected to take up.

With Celtic’s match with Motherwell on Saturday postponed after the death of Phil O’Donnell, Rangers took advantage to move top of the Premier League by beating Dundee United 2-0 at Ibrox.

Barry Ferguson bagged his sixth of the campaign but said he is unhappy with his return.

“I’m always looking to improve,” he said. “I’ve got six and we’re halfway through the season and I thought I would have got a lot more. But I’m just happy that the team is playing well and winning just now.”

Steven Naismith opened the scoring against United after just nine minutes before Ferguson wrapped up the points with a goal which was initially flagged for offside.

Rangers have also revealed they could rebuild Ibrox in an ambitious project to increase capacity and regenerate the area around the stadium. The club may seek to expand their home to a 70,000-capacity arena.
