THE transfer window breeds panic and encourages “scurrilous” transfer activity, according to Reading manager Steve Coppell.

Coppell has called for the window to be scrapped in favour of the previous system, where deals could be struck throughout the season until the closing weeks.

The Royals boss has already had to deal with speculation that the likes of Stephen Hunt, Leroy Lita and Nicky Shorey could depart this month and is clearly not enamoured with the frenzy of activity the window heralds.
