Connor sacked as Bohs boss

SEÁN CONNOR has been sacked as manager of Bohemians.

The Dublin club announced the shock decision in a terse statement on their website yesterday and while there was no further official comment from Dalymount Park, sources suggested that his dismissal was not strictly football related.

The club’s statement read: ‘‘Seán Connor’s contract has been terminated by the Board of Bohemian Football Club, with immediate effect. The Board will seek to fill the resultant vacancy as soon as possible.’’

Bohemians officials were meeting last night to discuss the situation and make the first moves in finding a successor to Connor.

Said a club source: ‘‘There are some obvious candidates out there but nobody has been ruled in or out yet. But we would like to get someone in sooner rather than later.’’

Among the big names who would be in contention for the post are former Shelbourne and Derry City and current Irish U-23 boss Pat Fenlon and, depending on how the current turmoil at Turner’s Park pans out, either Damien Richardson or former Longford supremo Alan Mathews, who has been linked with the Cork post. With former Bohs manager Stephen Kenny apparently set for a return to Derry City, it is unlikely that he will be a contender for a reunion with the Gypsies.. In his year at Bohs, former Sligo boss Connor took the club to third in the League and to the semi-finals of the FAI Cup where they were defeated by Cork City.
