Ferguson blast for FA after ‘hasty’ sacking of McClaren

ALEX FERGUSON has hit out at the FA for the speed with which they announced Steve McClaren’s sacking.

McClaren received a telephone call from FA chief executive Brian Barwick less than 12 hours after England’s crushing home defeat to Croatia, which saw them dumped out of Euro 2008 at the qualifying stage.

Although he accepts a stay of execution would probably have made no difference to McClaren’s job prospects, at a time when managers are getting sacked virtually every week, Ferguson feels the FA have failed to set an example for the rest to follow.
