Megson: Trotters ready for mighty Munich

GARY MEGSON was in bullish mood as Bolton prepared to play one of the one of the most glamorous games in the club’s history without a number of key players.

Leading scorer Nicolas Anelka, El-Hadji Diouf and Ivan Campo have all been ruled out of tonight’s UEFA Cup match against Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena (6pm Irish time).

Anelka is still suffering from a hamstring strain while Diouf turned his ankle in the battling 1-1 draw against West Ham on Sunday. Campo has started the last two league games but is not registered to play.

The odds appear stacked against Bolton but . Megson said: “We are not going to come here and try and keep the score down.

“We will not be going for a 0-0. You have to try and get results when you can and that’s our aim.”

Bolton had to settle for a home draw in the first match of the group stage against Portugal side Braga.

Bayern are a step up in class and widely expected to finish top of the table.

But there are signs already under Megson that Bolton are proving difficult opponents again. A stoppage time goal by Kevin Nolan at Upton Park gave them a point and boosted confidence ahead of tonight’s game.

“There are some fantastic players here and everything about this club is top drawer,” said Megson.

Megson has added two youngsters in James Sinclair and Robert Sissons to make up the numbers. Nicky Hunt, Abdoulaye Meite, Joey O’Brien, Christian Wilhelmsson and Ricardo Vaz Te are also injured.
