Knox hopes to keep post

ARCHIE KNOX is hoping to stay as coach under new Bolton manager Gary Megson.

Knox hopes to keep post

The Scot took charge of the team tonight in the 1-1 draw against Braga in the group stages of the UEFA Cup at the Reebok Stadium.

Megson, who watched the match from the dugout, will be officially unveiled tomorrow.

Knox, named coaching coordinator under previous boss Sammy Lee, believes he will revert to that role.

He said: “I will work away with Gary in a similar role as the one I had under Sammy.

“I have been assured it will be the same staff and there will be no changes.”

According to Knox, Megson had no input in the decision-making as Bolton squandered a good chance of regaining that winning mentality.

El-Hadji Diouf scored his first goal of the season in the 66th minute after stepping off the bench with a header at the back post.

However, the bottom club in the Barclays Premier League were stunned when the Portuguese visitors equalised with four minutes remaining to secure a point.

Substitute Jailson got clear of his marker to send a looping header over goalkeeper Jussi Jaaskelainen and into the net.

Knox said: “We just need to be a bit more resilient when we are in a winning position.”

Diouf caused Braga problems with his pace and movement and got his reward with a fine header following a cross from captain Kevin Davies.

Knox said: “Sometimes these changes work for you, sometimes they do not.

“I thought Diouf would give us a bit more control in the middle of the park.

“He is someone who can hold the ball and bring others into the game.”

BOLTON: Jaaskelainen, Hunt, Andrew O’Brien, Meite, Cid, Gardner (Teymourian 82), Guthrie (Diouf 61), McCann, Speed, Davies, Anelka.
