Keane blasts ‘sloppy’ defence

The Wearsiders tumbled to within a point of the relegation zone following a 3-1 defeat at West Ham, although the scoreline was hardly a fair reflection of a close-fought encounter.

Sunderland were well placed to snatch a precious victory when Kenwyne Jones cancelled out Carlton Cole’s opener, but fortune deserted them at their hour of need. Nolberto Solano’s 78th-minute shot cannoned off a post and into the net off the back of goalkeeper Craig Gordon and Keane’s side were unable to recover.
