SERENDIPTITY doo-dah! So there I was in Reykjavik last weekend for the Valur-Cork City game, when up popped Eidur Gudjohnsen on the Icelandic television sports news, the report, as best I could decode it, up-dating speculation on the prospect of the striker moving back to England from Barcelona.

And next up was a story about Sven Goran Eriksson’s imminent arrival at Manchester City.

It was the proximity of the two items which, bless me father, inspired a bad thought. If you were to say to Sven Goran Eriksson the words “Eidur Gudjohnsen”, what are the chances the Swede would slightly mishear and reply, “What a coincidence — I’d a good Jonsson too!”
