WELL, here it is at last, the long-awaited letter from Reyk…from Rejk…from Riek…from the capital of Iceland.

If I’m a little fuzzier than usual then blame it on the disorienting effects of nearly 24 hours of daylight. In the land of the midnight sun, the restless sleeper can find himself longing for that strange thing — the tunnel at the end of the light.

The long, long days of Iceland’s summer meant that Saturday night’s 8pm game between Cork City and Valur both kicked off and ended in broad daylight, with no need for the big floodlights to be switched on in the Laugardalsvollur national stadium.
