Clash of the two Rovers stands out

THE all-Premier Division clash between Shamrock Rovers and Sligo Rovers is the stand-out game from tonight’s FAI Ford Cup Second Round fixture list (Tolka Park, kick off 7.30pm).

For tonight’s visit of Sligo, the Hoops will be without captain Aidan Price, something they’re going to have to get used to.

‘‘I really feel for Aidan,’’ says manager Pat Scully.

‘‘After breaking his metatarsel in our last game against Bray, he’s out for three and a half months.

‘‘He’s irreplaceable — there are not too many players of his ability out there.’’

The Dublin club have been on a fine run of form in the league but a Rovers man knows better than most that the cup is a very different affair.

Says Scully: ‘‘I am very pleased with the overall level of our performance but we can forget about the league now and concentrate on getting into the next round of the cup. Sligo have a good team and ran us close the last time we met when we won with a late goal. We’re expecting a similar game — it will be tough and we’ll have to play well.’’

Tonight’s games also see a Cork derby with Douglas Hall looking to perform something of a giant-killing act against First Division Cobh Ramblers at St Coleman’s Park (kick off 7.45pm).
