WIGAN CHAIRMAN Dave Whelan has confirmed wages will be slashed throughout the club if the Latics are relegated from the Premiership.

Whelan’s club stand on the verge of a return to the Championship after two years in the top flight ahead of today’s penultimate game of the campaign against Middlesbrough at the JJB Stadium.

Goal difference is all that separates the Latics from a place in the bottom three, with contingency plans already in place should manager Paul Jewell’s side fail to avoid the drop.
