Tottenham predicting fireworks in Sevilla cup cracker

TOTTENHAM sporting director Damien Comolli predicted a “spectacular” UEFA Cup quarter-final after Spurs were paired with holders Sevilla.

Comolli believes both teams are peaking at the right time ahead of the last-eight tie. Spurs will travel to Spain for the first leg on April 5 before Sevilla, who brushed aside Middlesbrough in last year’s final, visit London a week later.

Comolli said: “It’s a difficult draw but any draw would have been difficult. What we wanted was to play the second leg at home and that’s what we have. It’s going to be a spectacular game because there are two attacking teams with great forward players.

“We knew any game would be difficult because it’s so competitive at this stage. Every team is fighting as hard as possible.

“It’s a team we know very well. They did very well against Middlesbrough last year and they’re doing very well in the league.

“They are like us, they are doing well in the league and they are still in the Copa del Rey, as we are in the FA Cup.

“It’s two teams who are coming into form at the right time. We had a couple of injuries at the beginning of the season and a few players took time to settle down but everyone is in good form and we are playing some fantastic football.

“We have won five and drawn one in the last six games so we want to keep this positive dynamic.”

UEFA Cup quarter-final draw: AZ v Werder Bremen, Bayer Leverkusen v Osasuna, Sevilla v Tottenham, Espanyol v Benfica (Ties to be played April 5 and April 12).

Semi-final draw: Espanyol/Benfica v AZ/Werder Bremen; Bayer Leverkusen/Osasuna v Sevilla/Tottenham (Ties to be played April 26 and May 3).
